The Quirimbas Archipelago is a group of 32 islands, completely blank, which stretch for 100 km along the northern coast of Mozambique, from the Rovuma River (natural border with Tanzania) to the city of Pemba. These islands contain some of the world's richest coral reefs in relation to the abundance of marine life. In 2002 the archipelago as well as a large tract of land on the continent was declared a National Park which has increased the protection and preservation of local eco-sitema. Protection for turtles, dugongs, dolphins, sharks and whales are some of the species found in these waters
.
The archipelago is in a remote area and therefore remains intact. Eleven (11) of thirty-two (32) islands are coralline. Ibo Island
Ibo is one of the best kept secrets of Mozambique. For over a century the island was isolated from the world, and today you can roam the streets of the island, reliving the stories of yesteryear. Being on this island is an opportunity to forget the modern world and dive into the past. Upon entering the fortress of San Sebastian, the island's largest, will meet with a group of silversmiths who work the silver using ancient Arab techniques. The past are the footsteps of the pirates, the terrible trade in slaves, gold and ivory that were very present here.
Ibo is past, but rather is an idyllic, romantic and timeless. The turquoise waters around the island are home to turtles, dolphins and whales, but are also home to the dugong.

Getting there
Access to the islands of the Quirimbas are increasingly simple. Visitors must first reach the city of Pemba and i take a flight in small plane or helicopter to the Quirimbas.
Daily flights are available to excellent Pemba. The Mozambique Airlines (LAM) flies from Johannesburg (South Africa), Maputo (Mozambique) and Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) to Pemba. The Precision Air flies from Nairobi (Kenya) and Dar Es Salamm (Tanzania) to Pemba.O light aircraft flight from Pemba and Ibo lasts 25 minutes and 35 minutes by helicopter.
Note: Children under two (2) years do not pay the transfer. Helicopter for rent and can use four passengers.
In the all-terrain car journey between Pemba and Quissanga lasts between 3-4 hours. From Quissanga can cross into dhow and may delay passage of 2 to 12 hours, depending on the wind and tide. You can also rent a motor boat.
Island Quilalea
Quilalea is unique in its size.
